Find the senior housing in Northern California that is best for you

Home & Care Options

Many factors go into choosing the best senior homes. Consider what you want and need now as well as anticipate possible changes in those needs.

quote Location - Do you wish to be near friends, family, doctors, church, shopping, city or suburbs, senior center, other activities such as classes or cultural resources?

Health - What is the state of your health now? Do you anticipate needing more or different care or assistance in the future? Many housing options offer, in one location, various levels which would allow you to remain in that home even if your health changed.

Size of Home - Large communities of 70-150 residents offer private apartments, dining rooms, activities and the sorts of amenities that are suited to a more independent senior. Smaller homes, often called Board and Care homes offer shared or private rooms in a small caring home with perhaps as few as 5 other residents. The seniors that benefit most from Board and Care homes may be frailer or less active.

Cost - Take a close look at your current income and assets. Consider which services that the home provides (such as transportation, meals or even healthcare) that might be included. Explore Long Term Care insurance, Reverse Mortgages, annuities and Veteran's benefits (Aid & Attendance) to augment your income.
